Independence Day, Birthday & More

We started the 4th off at my parents home with a water party. We had slip 'n slides, sprinklers, water balloon, water guns. Followed by a great BBQ lunch. The kids had a blast.

I love this picture of my little guy. Thanks to my sister for taking these, my camera is still getting fixed.

We ended the day at our house with a BBQ with Aaron's family. We had our grocery store variety fireworks display on the street afterwards. Several neighbors brought out their chairs and watched our pathetic display. Then they (and my kids) all moved on down the street to the next display in the street. It is great having such great neighbors that you can all enjoy a holiday together like that.

My birthday was a week ago. Aaron attempted to make me some cinnamon rolls (from a can) for breakfast. I never actually saw them, he says they were not salvageable. So my house smelled like cinnamon rolls when I woke up, only there were no cinnamon rolls. Ironically, my neighbor behind me left me a cinnamon roll and orange juice from Kneaders on my porch for me for my birthday. It was a pleasant surprise as Aaron opened the door to leave for work.

Several of my friends gathered at the Splash Park for lunch. It was crazy crowded there, apparently the day after school gets out is a popular time to go to the Splash Park. Who knew? Thanks to my friends for braving the crowd and sticking around. And hey, we didn't lose anyone. I really am grateful to have so many great friends.

My in-laws came over that night to watch the kids so Aaron and I could go out to dinner. We went to the Olive Garden. I haven't been there for years. We then went shopping. I really wanted a new swimming suit. What I terrible idea to go try on swimming suits on your birthday. Not exactly a great self esteem booster. So, after we decide to go pick up dessert to take home and share with my in-laws. Chocolate always makes me feel better! :) We went to my husbands new favorite store. The new Harmons in Draper. It sounds strange, but this place is incredible. The cheese bar alone could have kept Aaron there all night. We had samples from the homemade gelato ice cream bar. (Yum) They have gourmet dessert area, with chocolates imported from Switzerland (or some country I forget which one.) We ended up with a fudge chocolate cake that was delightful and it was so much cheaper to get the entire cake than to buy dessert at a restaurant. We are a little strange, but it was actually a lot of fun.

Here is my little plug for Harmons. Now I am not a normal shopper at Harmons, I usually only go there if something is on sale. However, I have to give them credit here. They have a found a niche in the crazy competitive grocery store market. If you haven't been there, it is worth the trip.

Fathers Day

My husband had quite the Father's Day. He had meetings starting at 7:30am so no sleeping in or special breakfast for him. I did buy some premade cream cheese rolls for him to grab as he ran out the door. We got home from church 12:30ish. I told him I would make him a special lunch. He orders an omelet with sausage and Swiss cheese. We don't make a lot of omelets at our house. Aaron is usually the one in charge of cooking the eggs, because for some reason I am not good at cooking eggs. Such was the case with the omelet. I tried hard, but I know I failed. His comments were very nice like "It's like there is a special sauce on it" translation, "This omelet is really runny." Despite the fact that Aaron said it tasted good, he got out the Betty Crocker cookbook and started reading up on how to make omelets. Such is Aaron, if he doesn't know how to do something, he finds out how. Had I been smart I would have done that before I attempted making the omelet.
After the failed lunch I bring out the unwrapped presents, let the kids choose which one is from them and we throw them in some sacks. Aaron hurries and opens a few presents and then we do a rush job of packing and we rush out the door at 2:30 and take him to the airport. We spent the remainder of the day with my family. Aaron spent it on an airplane.

Memorial Day

Our Memorial Day was unlike any other we have had. No vacations or playing for us. I think this picture pretty much sums up our weekend. . . .

Cassidy, Lindsey and Grant all have strep throat. Whitney had it about two weeks ago. Grant was sick earlier in the week, but was past the misery of the fevers by his birthday. He was still not eating very well and waking up several times in the night. Cassidy and Lindsey both had 104 degree fevers Saturday and Sunday. We took them all into an Express Care on Sunday and found that Cassidy's tonsils were swollen just about to mid line - meaning that much more swelling and she would not be able to breathe. So the two of them had their "special beds" in our room and they were there watching TV the entire day Saturday. They would get up for a few minutes but that was too tiring so they would go back to their beds. I managed to get the office painted between the moaning and Cassidy's "My mouth hurts." Having two sick is actual quite interesting. They would try to out moan each other, or try to be sicker than the other person. It made for a very irritating day.
Whitney was so bored out of her mind that she decided to go with Aaron to Home Depot. All he had to do was finalize the carpet that we were going to buy - quick trip. Three hours later they leave Home Depot. Whitney is definitely a trooper. They got some good bonding time together. At least being at home didn't seem as boring anymore.
Monday we were planning on doing some yard work, but of course it rained and rained, darn. So Aaron built some shelves in our new office and under the stairs. Now we can go through and organize everything.
